Dolichol metabolism
Dolichol metabolism pathway shows the synthesis of dolichyl D-mannosyl phosphate, a substrate of GPI anchor biosynthesis pathway from dolichol acquired from host. The dolichol metabolism pathway is also present in Plasmodium falciparum. Plasmodium can synthesise dolichyl phosphate from both dolichol and dolichyl diphosphate, whereas Piroplasma can only phosphorylate dolichol to dolichyl phosphate. Dolichyl D-mannosyl phosphate is also a substrate for N-glycans. The enzymes for N-glycan synthesis is absent in both Plasmodium and Piroplasma species. The N-glycan biosynthesis is present in the Coccidia branch of Apicomplexa.
